Primalco Production Process

Starch makes up about 60% of barley, the remainder being protein, fibre and minerals.  The starch contained in the grain is divided according to specific gravity into two classes: large-grained and small-grained.  The large-grained variety is used in the production of barley starch.

The mixture of barley starch and water is passed through screens and separators so that the fibres and proteins are separated from the starch.  The starch is washed with clean water in hydro cyclones,  and is delivered to the customer in dried or liquid form.  The proteins, fibres and minerals contained in barley are valuable nutrients for farm animals, mainly pigs and cattle, indeed, the separated protein is sold as unprocessed barley protein, the barley fibre is dried and granulated into animal fibre, and the distillers soluble are processed into feed concentrates.
