ISOMALT – A Unique Sugar Replacer

Pleasantly sweet, low in calories, and kind to teeth – with these benefits, ISOMALT is convincing more and more health-conscious consumers worldwide. This is why ISOMALT is used in an ever-growing number of premium quality confectionery and food products – as the ideal alternative for conventional sugars and sweeteners.

ISOMALT – Exclusively Made from Sugar

ISOMALT´s natural origin is beet sugar. In a 2-step process, the sugar components glucose and fructose are used to make up ISOMALT. In its finished form ISOMALT looks just like sugar and is, like sugar, a principal ingredient in confectionery and other food products.

ISOMALT Is not an Intense Sweetener

ISOMALT replaces sugar in a 1:1 ratio, providing both bulk and texture. It is therefore very different from so-called "intense sweeteners". These compounds are extremely sweet (up to a thousand times sweeter than sugar) and are only used in very small amounts.

Right:
ISOMALT (large pile) replaces sugar in a 1:1 ratio, whereas a high-intensity sweetener (small pile) cannot provide bulk in a finished product.

Toothfriendly
ISOMALT helps prevent tooth decay. Oral bacteria are unable to use ISOMALT as an energy source, which keeps them from producing harmful acids that cause tooth cavities. Additionally, ISOMALT reduces the formation of plaque by promoting remineralisation – i.e., it helps build dental enamel. These characteristics have led scientists and dentists to recommend toothfriendly products made with ISOMALT for caries prevention.
ISOMALT pH-values in the mouth remain in a neutral band, whereas after consumption of sugar they quickly drop to a harmful level.

Low Calorie/Low Carb.

With regard to calories, ISOMALT products perform much better than their sugar-containing counterparts, because ISOMALT yields only half the calories of sugar (in fact, the human body uses only around 50% of ISOMALT).

ISOMALT Works like Dietary Fibre

Just like the dietary fibre in beans, onions and various fruits, ISOMALT belongs to the group of "low digestible carbohydrates". These carbohydrates stimulate bowel activity and help counteract constipation. In some people, excessive consumption may produce a laxative effect. Scientific evidence shows that, similarly to high-fibre foods like plums and prunes, consumption of ISOMALT in moderate amounts is tolerated very well.

Non Sticky, Great Flavour

ISOMALT absorbs very little water. Confectionery products are therefore not sticky and do not melt or soften at summer temperatures or in high humidity. ISOMALT-containing sugarfree hard candies, for example, do not need to be individually wrapped. They can be presented in environmentally friendly convenience packs, saving extra packaging. And yet, ISOMALT products keep their premium quality and delicious flavour freshness.
With its pleasant sweetness ISOMALT enhances subtle and fine flavours, such as peach, melon, mango or passion fruit. The pure, natural taste of ISOMALT never overlays flavours but releases their full potential. No matter whether you prefer menthol, mint, coffee or exotic fruit: ISOMALT means pure indulgence without regrets!
